Schréder Acquires EdgeMachines to Deliver Smarter Urban Services
Schréder, is announced the acquisition of Australian-based EdgeMachines, a specialist in low-power urban sensing and edge AI. Following a successful year-long partnership deploying projects internationally, this acquisition is a natural evolution driven by a shared vision to help cities become more sustainable, more resilient and more comfortable by providing insights based on real-time data. Through a single, centralised dashboard, Schréder EXEDRA delivers the critical data cities need to understand urban patterns and guide their decisions.
This integrated approach has already been proven across global deployments, which successfully transformed existing lighting infrastructure into a smart data network. The Schréder SENSE ONE sensor, powered by EdgeMachines, processes data directly at the edge. This reduces reliance on high-bandwidth connectivity and enables privacy-by-design sensing by turning raw sensor inputs into actionable real-time insights before data leaves the device. By seamlessly integrating these data streams, Schréder EXEDRA now provides real-time insights on traffic flow, space occupancy, parking, and environmental conditions to more than 20 cities across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
These deployments highlight the versatility of lighting infrastructure in meeting a wide range of urban needs. In Logan, Australia, for example, the city is now tracking vehicle speed and counting both pedestrians and vehicles, providing critical data to improve road safety. Oeiras City Council in Portugal is monitoring crowd management and air quality while providing citizens with real-time parking availability.
"The success of this partnership relies on the fact that Schréder EXEDRA was built on open standards. Interoperability was a founding principle of the platform. EdgeMachines' real-time data processing and sensing technology integrated effortlessly from day one, delivering critical operational data to cities worldwide. By bringing this expertise in-house, we are transforming how cities can interact with their infrastructure and redefining what a smart lighting network can achieve." – Philippe Felten, CEO Schréder
