Sharp Presents New Mega ZENIGATA LEDs with 108 lm/W for Europe
The newest generation of Mega ZENIGATA LEDs from Sharp shines with a luminous efficiency of up to 108 lm/W in standard use. The new LED arrays with model number GW6DxxxxNFC are available in four different performance classes: 15 W, 25 W, 35 W and 50 W. The 50 W arrays require a forward voltage of 50 V and are designed for a constant current of 950 mA. In this way, they achieve a luminous flux of up to 4780 lm. With increased energy input of up to 1500 mA, the brightness of the 50 W COB LED may be trimmed to 6930 lm.

The smaller siblings (15 W, 25W and 35W) are specified for a forward current of 400 mA, 700 mA and 950 mA, respectively, with a forward voltage of 37 V and thereby achieve a luminous flux of 1600 lm, 2700 lm and 3600 lm respectively. The forward current input may be increased, allowing maximum brightness of 2480 lm to be obtained with the 15 W series, 3780 lm with the 25 W and 4680 lm with the 35 W series.
Sharp's Mega ZENIGATA LEDs continue to based on a substrate from technical ceramics (Aluminium oxide Al2O3) with dimensions of 24 mm x 20 mm x 1.8 mm and a round light emitting surface (LES) with a diameter of 17 mm. As a result, the Mega ZENIGATA COB LEDs have the characteristics of a high-performance, point light source which requires less complicated optics compared to multipoint light sources (lens, reflector). Because no changes were made in design, the new models are fully compatible from a mechanical perspective, not only with their predecessors but also within the diverse performance classes. As a result, luminaire manufacturers are able to develop luminaire series with the same lighting housing in different performance- and brightness classes and even make use of existing designs in doing so.
The narrow dimensions in combination with the small, round LES also provide high design flexibility for compact lights. This literally predestines Mega ZENIGATA LEDs for use in recessed luminaries and recessed spotlights.
The high degree of thermal conductivity of the ceramic substrate ensures optimal heat transfer to the cooling element, so that Mega ZENIGATA LEDs have a long lifetime of at least 40,000 hours with an operating temperature of up to 90°C. In addition, the very smooth surface of the underside of the substrate contributes to very efficient heat transfer and enables the LED to be securely affixed to an appropriate cooling element without excess effort.
The colour temperatures of the new white light LED arrays range from 2,700 to 6,000 Kelvin with the shades "Natural White", "Warm White" and "Pure White". Thereby, the LEDs are characterised by high (light) quality: R9 values of more than 85 with CRI values of more than 90, binning within MacAdam3 as well as high colour consistency and -stability throughout the entire lifetime under realistic operating conditions (hot lumen). The different performance classes are each available with a CRI value of at least 80 or 90.
Overall, the MegaZENI LED COB LEDs are characterised by high light quality and high performance combined with a compact form. This makes them suitable not only for street- and property lighting but also for interior use such as in recessed luminaries and recessed spotlights, etc.
