3M Announces Commercial Availability of New 3M™ FTB3 Barrier Film that Protects Organic Electronics like OLEDs
3M’s Optical Systems Division today announced that its 3M™ FTB3-50 and FTB3-125 films—flexible, optically clear films that protect sensitive electronics from water vapor and oxygen—are now commercially available. Previously, these films had been sold primarily under limited research-and-development agreements. FTB3 (for flexible, transparent, barrier) film has application in a range of emerging display technologies.

Sumitomo Metal Mining & Tohoku University Research Team Develop New Oxide-based Red Phosphor
Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd., working in collaboration with a research team from Tohoku University’s Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM) headed by Professor Masato Kakihana, has succeeded in developing a new silicon-containing oxide-based red phosphor1 for use in white LEDs2. The new phosphor can be manufactured less expensively than earlier red phosphors and is expected to contribute to higher performance in white LEDs as sources of illumination.

Shin-Etsu Chemical's High Refractive Index Silicone to Improve Performance of High-Brightness LEDs
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo, President Shunzo Mori) announced that it has developed new silicone material products for high-brightness LEDs. The new LimpidSi LPS-3600 Series is a high-reliability silicone encapsulating material and the LED Tiger SG Series is silicone-based mounting board that has superior thermal stability and laser resistance. PhosphorTech Introduces New RadiantFlex Product Line for High CRI Solid State Lighting Applications
PhosphorTech has just released its latest RadiantFlex phosphor sheet product series for ultra high color rendering (CRI) LED applications. The new products are available from "warm white" (CCT~3000K) to "cool white" (CCT~5500K) versions with CRI as high as 96 using blue LEDs between 450-455nm. Munich, October 16, 2013 – WACKER, the Munich-based chemical company, will present eleven new products for the silicone and plastics processing industries at the 19th Interna- tional Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber K 2013 in Düsseldorf, Germany. ELASTOSIL® Film – an extremely thin film made of silicone rubber – is a world first.
