LuxLive and SILE Sharpen Focus on End-Users

Philips Sells 80.1% Shares of Lumileds to Apollo Global Management
Royal Philips announced that it has signed an agreement to sell an 80.1% interest in Lumileds, a leading supplier of LED components and automotive lighting, to certain funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management, LLC (NYSE: APO) (together with its consolidated subsidiaries: “Apollo”). Philips will retain the remaining 19.9% interest* in Lumileds.

The Connected Lighting Alliance Accomplishes its Mission and Dissolves its Organization
The Connected Lighting Alliance (TCLA), the primary advocate of wireless lighting connectivity, announced today that is has accomplished its goal of converging the lighting industry in support of the use of open protocols for wireless lighting solutions. Having looked at a wide variety of open protocols, TCLA has now endorsed ZigBee 3.0 for consumer applications and identified the Thread Group as the organization to develop a suitable network-layer protocol for indoor professional lighting applications. As such, the members of TCLA have agreed to dissolve the organization by the 31st of December 2016. Their work and vision for interoperable wireless lighting solutions will continue at TCLA's partner organizations: the ZigBee Alliance, the Thread Group and the Fairhair Alliance.

Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2016 Gathered a Record 140,000+ Visitors from Around the World
Taking the lighting sector’s transformation in stride, the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) wrapped up its 21st edition with visitor figures reaching a record high. The expo maintains its steady position as an influential and comprehensive lighting and LED event by receiving strong industry support – support that was demonstrated through its largest annouced visitor figures in decades. The 2016 edition, held from 9 – 12 June at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, welcomed 145,080 visitors (2015: 135,990) – more than a six percent increase from last year’s numbers – from 137 countries and regions. These professionals hailed from China as well as from various developed and emerging markets worldwide. The top 10 overseas visiting countries and regions were Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, the US, Australia, Italy and Germany.

READING, Mass. (September 28, 2016) — Fraen is pleased to announce that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently issued a patent on the cornerstone product of Fraen’s entertainment lighting optics portfolio. LpS 2016 - The Leading European Lighting Conference Forecasts Further Transformations
The sixth LED professional Symposium +Expo opened its doors on September 20th, in Bregenz, Austria. About 1,500 lighting professionals and over 100 exhibitors took part in Europe’s foremost lighting conference and exhibition. Experts from academia and industry, including Prof. Shuji Nakamura, Nobel Laureate in Physics 2014, discussed cutting edge findings and explored new technologies and applied them to business models and use cases in applications. The conversion of lighting, which started with LED and OLED light sources, will continue with new technologies such as communication tools and IoT. Acquisition of Nualight’s LED Driver Business Strengthens Fulham’s European Channels

Fulham Opens New European Headquarters and Design Centre

Infineon to Acquire Wolfspeed for US Dollar 850 Million in Cash
Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) and Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) announced today that Infineon has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Wolfspeed Power and RF division (“Wolfspeed”) of Cree. The deal also includes the related SiC wafer substrate business for power and RF power. The purchase price for this planned all-cash transaction is US Dollar 850 million (approximately Euro 740 million). LpS 2016 – The Leading European Lighting Conference Announced a Comprehensive Program
The 6th International LED professional Symposium +Expo (LpS 2016) in Bregenz, Austria, from September 20th to 22nd, has increased the conference program to 5 parallel running tracks with 100+ lectures, 4 workshops, 3 forums and 3 top-level keynotes. The three days of the symposium have been divided into a “Strategy Day” followed by a “Technology and Design Day” and ending with a “Solution Day”. In addition to the outstanding conference program, over 100 exhibitors will present latest innovations and the current status of LED and OLED lighting in the 3,000 square meter exhibition area.
