OSRAM Expanding in the Market for Energy-Efficient Lighting Systems and Luminaires
OSRAM is acquiring Siteco Lighting GmbH based in Traunreut/Germany from Barclays Private Equity. Siteco is a leading European lighting company with a worldwide workforce of 1250 and achieving revenue of around €220 million in fiscal year 2010. The company supplies luminaires and lighting systems for urban infrastructures such as public and commercial buildings, streets, tunnels, airports and sports stadiums. More than two thirds of the global lighting market is covered by luminaires and lighting systems. “With this acquisition, OSRAM is addressing this key market. As a leading manufacturer of lighting components, we are now also further expanding our competencies in the solution business. This applies to conventional energy-saving lighting technology and in particular to LED-based luminaires and systems, where we are expecting the greatest growth”, says Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM. The transaction remains subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities. The parties have agreed to keep the purchase price undisclosed.

Philips Lumileds announced an industry breakthrough today that will relieve luminaire manufacturers’ and lighting designers’ concerns over white light consistency and uniformity and will dramatically simplify the design process for LED solutions. Philips LED Lightbulb is First 60-W Equivalent to Earn Energy Star Qualification
The world’s first LED replacement for a 60-watt incandescent bulb is now also the first to earn ENERGY STAR qualification. Philips Lighting announced today that the Philips AmbientLED 12.5 watt (also sold professionally under the Philips EnduraLED brand) has met or exceeded the quality and energy efficiency requirements for a 60-watt LED equivalent set forth by ENERGY STAR, proving that it is a highly-efficient, cost-effective lighting option for consumers. The bulb lasts 25 times longer and uses 80 percent less energy than the 60-watt incandescent bulb it was designed to replace.

Optogan Opens Largest LED Production in Eastern Europe
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov today unveiled Optogan’s new manufacturing plant in St. Petersburg. With an overall investment of 3.35 billion rubles (80 million euros) it is the largest LED component and module factory in Eastern Europe & CIS. The factory, which will employ up to 800 people, covers 15,000 m2 of floor space 5,000 m2 of which is taken up by a clean room environment. The first production line has an annual production capacity of 360 million LEDs and further capacity extensions are scheduled.

Tridonic Fürstenfeld Launches into the LED Era
The Tridonic production plant in Fürstenfeld, which manufactures magnetic lighting components and is part of the Zumtobel Group, is launching into the LED era and today commissioned its first LED assembly line. The highly automated line represents an initial step towards the volume production of innovative LED chains. Plans envisage commissioning up to three more LED assembly lines by 2013. Annual production capacity is slated to reach 12 million LED modules. The new LED assembly lines represent a total investment of EUR 1.5 million. The plant offers space for expansion to as many as six assembly lines. Production of special LED light engines for use in chiller cabinets has already begun.
